Established in 2007, the Thousand Oaks Golf Academy is a state of the art facility that prides itself in being on the cutting edge of golf technology, allowing students to better their games in the quickest time possible. In order to play the golf of your dreams, one must learn from the best. Charley Vandenberg, Director of Instruction of the Academy, is one of the elite golf instructors in the country. According to his peers, his passion for the game and enthusiasm for helping others improve every aspect of their games make him an excellent instructor. Their belief in his skills have resulted in nominations for the Michigan PGA Teacher of the Year on 14 different occasions, capturing the title in 1998, 2003, 2007 and 2010. Being honored with this prestigious title four times is unprecedented in the state of Michigan. Charley was also a top 6 finalist for the 2010 PGA National Teacher of the Year honor, and is a top 4 finalist for 2012.

Barrett Kelpin who won the National Golf Association Hooters Tour tournament at Magnolia Golf Club and took home the $10,700 first place prize. Kelpin entered the third and final day of the tournament tied for third place, three strokes behind the leaders. He shot a 6-under 66 Thursday to finish 14-under, one stroke ahead of Ryan Brehm of East Lansing.
